Being a teacher and someone who works a lot with kids, I often think about how my dream school would look like, if I ever were to start my own dream school. I post this every year and it does changes a bit every time 😁.&nbsp; Here we go... #1 on the list would be to create an environment that makes ALL students and teachers happy and everybody will come to this school every day with a big smile on their face. Most schools are all about control and creating a specific product, but this school will be all about bringing out all the individual and unique potential.&nbsp; My fictional school's main goals are...<ol><li style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34)">to create highly functional people who can be successful, happy and healthy in society.</li><li style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34)">to create contributing citizens who will help to create a better world.</li></ol> Every day should start with some kind of physical activity for all students, teachers and staff to create good health habits and to boost brain power for the day’s learning. After the morning activity, the students will be taught in a joyful, cozy classroom that they have been involved in the decoration of. The classrooms will be flexible which allows students to work sitting down or to use stand-up desks if they want to and each classroom will have an outdoor space that can be used for learning. To be able to create a happy environment, rules are needed. But not too many. Each class will create a list of 3 classroom agreements that are created by the students in cooperation with the teacher. It will be scheduled 10-minute brain breaks (Fun, active games or mindfulness) built into every hour of learning throughout the day which keeps the students focused and energized throughout the day to maximize learning. All teachers will be educated and encouraged to use nature to teach great, authentic lessons with lots of fresh air outdoors. Teachers will have access to lots of great resources which means less prep time and more time for preparing the body and mind for the next lesson (workout, meditation, play with kids, etc, etc). Classroom learning should resemble real-world learning to make the learning more purposeful for the students. They will open shops, start businesses, etc, etc. Technology is a fantastic resource and will be used as exactly that. A resource! Too much can be a distraction. Teachers can also feel pressured to integrate technology and distract them from teaching essentials. And as money isn’t a problem in this school 😁, the workload will be less as busy schedules are holding teachers back. P.E, Art, and Music will be an important part of the curriculum as it is proven to be super important for brain functioning, memory, creativity, etc. From creating a school with happy, knowledgeable teachers, the quality of teaching and learning will be so high so it will be less homework for the students which means more value for students and teachers' free time and more time to join sports and other after-school activities. Break areas should be fun and close to nature with possibilities to play sports and games, do art, and all breaks will have recess activators for those students who need help to activate themselves. For lunch, the students will always be served nutritious food that they have been involved in the planning for and sometimes preparing. A few kids would each day help out in the kitchen to get an understanding and knowledge of cooking nutritious food. Breakfast and a dinner box will be available for those with a busy schedule before and after school. Every student will have a buddy from another grade who can help, support and play with them as well as all teachers will have a mentor teacher. With happy kids who will get all the skills and knowledge needed for a successful life, it will also be a very happy parent community. Would you like to join this school?
